Introduction to the job
Collaborates throughout a broader stakeholder network (e.g. involving several departments and with more interaction with higher management (e.g. department head, senior managers, or value stream managers) to execute business engineering processes and analyze data to identify and drive process improvements.
Can work with a senior business engineer in the implementation of business engineering processes, improvement projects or creation of analytics reports with limited or no guidance.
Develops appropriate solutions based on own professional judgement and is able to implement process improvements.
Role and responsibilities
Resource Management & Cost MgtDesigns and improves quantitative models. Can propose trend analysis accross several time horizons (short-term, mid-term, backward looking/forward looking). Integrates information from several input sources (E.g. FTE data, labor hours, Cycle time), and is aware of broader interdependencies.
Leads and takes full accountability for the preparation and execution of resource management reviews for assigned department where applicable (e.g. blueprint revisions, norms reviews, Total Anual Plan).
Performance ManagementHas a clear understanding of how the performance management framework runs in own organization (including tiers above and below). Can propose recommendations to improve the framework and performance dialogues (Plan-Do-Check-Act).
Leads the preparation and facilitates performance reviews. Has a broad understanding of how the performance management tool works and is used.
Evaluates effectiveness of the performance metrics (e.g. definitions, data quality/collection process, actionability) and suggests enhancements or improvement towards new definitions/metrics.
Can provide additional insights to identify opportunities/risks on the metrics.
Business Intelligence & Analytics ReportingCreates and visualizes performance/trending/gap analysis/ad hoc reports (e.g. cycle time). Has solid expertise with critical data sources and understand the interdependencies and processes underneath.
Can support stakeholders requests with foundational dashboards/business intelligence solutions (e.g. Power BI, Spotfire)
Advises and guides own department during the intake process for those solutions that require prioritization and implementation through other analytics parties.
Process improvements / optimizationDevelops action plans, and recommends data sources and processes to further explore which influence the performance indicators ( E.g. Cost, Cycle Time, Inventory). Analyzes data in a holistic, end-to-end manner of processes in scope.
Process & Knowledge ManagementCollaborates with process specialists and experts in defining, documenting and maintaining standards connected to Business Engineering processes (e.g. norms, blueprints)
Creates and maintains work instructions for own scope, and ensures they are available in standard document management tools (e.g. Sharepoint, ARIS). Ensures proper deployment and adherence from stakeholders.
Project & Benefits ManagementIs able to lead an improvement project with broader complexity and overseeing several work streams under supervision of a Program Manager / Lead. Has solid experience with project management methodologies (E.g. ASML PM Method, SCRUM/Agile, PMI, DMAIC etc.)
Supports key stakeholders in making sure that all plans, work packages and deliverables are aligned with the expected benefits.
Defines and maintains the business case.
Continuous Improvement: Lean/Six SigmaCollaborates with lean experts and other stakeholders in combining data analytics with CI tools (E.g. VSM, Daily Management, Hoshin Kanri , Problem Solving tools A3/4C). Has experience applying lean tools and concepts of Lean and Six Sigma. Manages green belt projects.
Business Acumen & Business PartneringHas a clear understanding of the strategy of own department and understands how the Business Engineering competencies support. Understands interdependencies amongst priorities, processes, and other relevant topics (e.g. KPIs, tools, systems)
Communication & Stakeholder ManagementManages stakeholders across different levels. Applies effectively different communication channels (e.g. meeting/workshop facilitation, email, delivering trainings)
Supports senior leaders in the preparation of presentations.
Education and experience
University degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations, Economics, Supply Chain Management or Business Administration. Masters degree with sound experience.
Has sound knowledge and understanding of theory related to operations, data analytics, business management (e.g. budgeting, capacity models, use of SAP, operational/financial KPIs, data visualization tools). Has solid experience in functions combining data insights and process improvements (E.g. service, manufacturing, lean, planning)
