Position/Assignment Purpose The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive mechanical design, review and test services using principles in mechanics, material science, physics and heat transfer to support R&D activities in new product development, maintenance of the line and manufacturing test projects. Position/Assignment Summary The Designer, Mechanical is responsible to study the mechanical design requirements specified for each new product and deploy legacy/innovative approaches to integrate them seamlessly into the final product design. This position requires high level of proficiency in computer-aided software to plan and develop mechanical models and layouts. This position assures design feasibility and robustness by designing customized testing methods, performing critical dimensions checks, confirming fabrication and assembly processes. This position prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends in a timely manner. This position needs to maintain a comprehensive record for all mechanical related activities to ensure complete traceability in accordance to ISO standards. He/she works as a close liaison to bridge internal R&D teams and external PCB/parts suppliers to ensure the final mechanical design fully meets the project requirements. This position is responsible to follow-up with parts suppliers on design for manufacturability (DFM) reports. This position also supports product reliability testing activities. Key Accountabilities/Statement of Work 1. Perform mechanical part design for embedded wireless products 20% 2. Collaborate with the project team to capture mechanical design requirements and integrate them accurately into the part design 10% 3. Generate and maintains designs in Creo/Intralinks 10% 4. Interface with suppliers to obtain design feedback and cost quotations for parts and tooling within deadlines 10% 5. Keep a proper record of all mechanical design activities to ensure complete traceability 10% 6. Complete and publish thermal study report for every new project 10% 7. Ensure factory issues with the design are resolved in a timely manner 5% 8. Support product reliability testing activities such as HALT testing, sample preparation, test setup, accessories preparation, results documentation and sample storage 25% Required Education, Experience and Competencies 1. Degree or above in Mechanical Engineering 2. At least 3 years of experience in product design, preferably electronic products 3. Demonstrated expertise in the design of parts and assemblies for new products with high level of attention to detail 4. Experienced with designing for high volume manufacturing and coordinating DFMs with suppliers 5. Proficient in creating a wide range of mechanical documentation including detailed drawings using Creo/Intralink, mechanical design reviews, assembly guidelines etc. 6. Knowledge of ECAD functionality in Creo/Intralink to transfer constraints for PCB outline and assembly design 7. Knowledge of sheetmetal part design, RF shielding, connectors, and statistical tolerance analysis 8. Knowledge of latest Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard 9. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to interact effectively with customers and suppliers 10. Proficient with Windows and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 11. Require occasionally travels to manufacturing facilities subcontracted by Sierra Wireless, non- local testing laboratories and mechanical component suppliers 12. Familiar with a wide range of RF or reliability testing equipment (radio communication tester, oscilloscope, network analyzer, ESD tester, climatic chamber, power meter, power supply etc.)

In this role, you will develop and implement test solutions for our point-to-point transfer of high-speed data in optical communication, broadcast television, and professional AV markets.
